The Center for Mindful Living

The Center for Mindful Living is a sanctuary in the city, offering meditation classes and special events related to the practice of Buddhism, mindfulness, healthy living, kindness and community. Many classes are offered on a drop-in basis, including Daily Meditation from 7:30 – 8:15 am Monday through Friday. All are warmly welcome to learn, practice and gather in fellowship here. The Center will begin offering a  meditation class on Sundays from 10:30-noon at Iona Senior Services (4125 Albemarle St. NW) starting on December 29, 2020.

The center is a facility of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW), a vibrant community offering classes and projects throughout the metropolitan Washington region. As of October 2017, the Center is managed by community volunteers, out of gratitude for the dharma, love for each other and a vision of waking up in this lifetime!

The sanctuary is maintained largely through dana (see below), Monthly Sustaining Memberships, and the continued support of IMCW. Also office space and rooms suitable for classes and events are available for rent.

About Dana

In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are considered so precious as to be priceless. Thus they are given freely, with the opportunity to offer voluntary donations, or danaDana is the ancient Pali word for “spontaneous generosity of the heart.” Dana both supports IMCW and plays a central role in the spiritual life of a dharma practitioner.

New to meditation? You are welcome to come as you are. Let the teacher know when you arrive, and they will happily orient you, or just come and participate — whatever makes you feel at ease.

There are many resources on meditation on the Insight Meditation Community of Washington’s website and on our Resources page for you to discover. Enjoy!
