George Derek Musgrove, Associate Professor of History at UMBC, has launched a website exploring the history of Black Power organizing in the nation’s capital. Black Power in Washington D.C. uses geographing maps, historical photographs and text to represent the evolution of this influential social movement over space and time. The project builds from his book, Chocolate City: A History of Race and Democracy in the Nation’s Capital, co-authored with Chris Myers Asch and published in 2017. Please visit Black Power in DC to see this rich and informative visual storytelling project.
