I just received the following note from the author of the book which inspired this series. A’Lelia may join the conversation. Please read below:
Thanks for your note. I’m glad that so many people have been entertained and inspired by the series. Octavia Spencer really conveys my great-great-grandmother’s courage and tenacity and gives a sense of what it’s like to build a business. But since the series is very much a “Hollywood” version of history, I’m hoping you might encourage the participants to read the book that “inspired” the series.
I’ve also posted several links that explain what is fact and what is fiction in the series on my Twitter and Instagram pages (@aleliabundles) and on my public Facebook page (A’Lelia Bundles/author)
Here are a few fact vs fiction articles
Because so many people have asked how accurate the series is in its portrayal of Madam Walker, I hope you’ll be able to share the information about the book with your participants.
