The Legal Counsel for the Elderly’s (LCE) “If You Own It, Know It” presentation will focus on protecting home ownership and cover a variety of topics, including: the DC tax sale, property tax assistance for seniors, preventing foreclosure, and spotting and avoiding scams and fraud.  The training will also provide information on Schedule H – which is an underclaimed DC tax benefit available to both homeowners and renters in the District.

Megan McFeeley leads LCE’s Schedule H practice, which helps clients apply and obtain a tax credit of up to $1,200 per year. The tax credit provides much-needed financial support that helps low-income clients pay for housing, food and other essentials. In this role, Megan trains and supervises pro bono attorneys who assist clients with Schedule H applications. Additionally, Megan manages volunteer law students and paralegals in screening clients and other Schedule H tasks. Megan also assists with advocacy efforts on Schedule H-related issues before DC Council.

Bryony Coiner is staff attorney in LCE’s Consumer Protection and Homeownership Preservation Practice.  She represents clients in a variety of cases, including foreclosure prevention, debt collection defense, and other consumer issues.
