Introduction to Improvisational Comedy
August 13 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 3:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until September 24, 2020
You will laugh in this course – a lot. We’ll try out storytelling, theater, and improv in a relaxed, supportive and friendly atmosphere using the Zoom platform. Comedy teaches the greatest lessons in life. Supportive agreement and building connections with others and the world around you. Smiling for an hour and a half each week will transform your life into a less stressful, and more joyful experience. No experience necessary. Please join the class before 9:00 pm the night before. We will email you a Zoom invitation before the class. If you haven’t received it the morning of the class, please check your junk, trash, or promotions folders.
This class is intended for DC Residents age 60 plus. Topher Bellavia has trained hundreds of groups to work and play together better. He believes that the secret to good teamwork is positivity with an emphasis on listening, openness, and trust. He can’t teach people to be smart, creative or funny, but he can help people understand that they already are. Topher graduated from Wesleyan University with an Honors Degree in Directing for the Theater and American Government. In 1998, he moved to DC, where he co-founded Washington Improv Theater’s improv training program. He writes courses, mentors new instructors, and has coached more than a 1,000 improvisers. Some of his graduates have gone on to perform on the TBS shows Ground Floor and Fox’s Mulaney, as well as write for NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
This program is now full. Email Community@iona.org if you are interested in adding your name to the waiting list.
