A new book highlights riders on METRO’s buses and trains.  It shows drawings of METRO riders, along with poems that speak  their innermost thoughts.  Carol Morgan and local poet Gerry Hendershot collaborated on a 16-page book, METRO Anthology.  Carol provided 12 pen and ink drawings of riders, and Gerry,  12 accompanying poems. The project started a year ago, when the Art League Gallery of Alexandria invited entries of a piece of art accompanied by poetry for their monthly show. Carol entered a drawing, “Going Home on the Yellow Line,” and invited Gerry to enter a poem.  The work was displayed for about a month at the Art League Gallery.   Then Gerry suggested that the two of them collaborate on a book. Carol and Gerry will share their drawings and poems with you at this session.

For years, Carol, a Washington native,  has been drawing METRO riders, before and after she retired from the federal government.  She had been a writer for 40 years and  studied art part time.  Gerry, who lives in Riverdale Park, MD.,  was a health statistician who has been reading, writing, and teaching poetry for 12 years. They are both over age 80.
