Workshop: Scams, Fraud, and Abuse: Learning How to Protect Yourself and Others

Join us for an interactive discussion on fraud, scams, and other forms of abuse. Learn more about the most common scams, how to protect yourself, and how to report. You will also learn how to support those in your community experiencing other forms of abuse. We can all play a role in ending the epidemic of elder abuse!
Sydney Palinkas is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker. She has worked at ElderSAFE for over a year. Before that, she worked for the National Network to End Domestic Violence, focusing on housing for survivors of domestic violence. She received her Bachelors Degree at Northeastern University and her Masters at Boston University.
The ElderSAFE Center is a program of Charles E. Smith Life Communities in Rockville, Maryland. ElderSAFE just celebrated its 5th year anniversary. ElderSAFE provides safe temporary shelter to older adults experiencing abuse, in the nursing home and independent living setting. The team also works to increase public awareness of this issue, training community members, professionals, faith leaders, and more. ElderSAFE receives calls about internet scams and have sheltered individuals that have become homeless due to fraud. ElderSAFE provides education around internet safety, helping people identify scams, know the warning signs, and know how to report.
