SUMMARY:Storytelling Workshop: Four Ways to Tell a Story
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Topher Bellavia\nEvery good story works the same way—whether it reaches you as a film\, a song\, a sitcom script\, or a memory you’ve never said out loud. Over four weeks\, we’ll open four doors into the craft of storytelling\, and by the last one\, you’ll have a story of your own. Attend all four\, or drop in for the weeks that most interest you. \nWeek 1 (9/3) — Watch. We’ll watch the opening scenes of a few classic films — like Psycho — then talk about what made us want to keep watching. \nWeek 2 (9/10) — Listen. We’ll choose a song connected to a person\, place\, moment\, or memory. We’ll play it and find the story inside it. \nWeek 3 (9/17) — Read. We’ll read a scene aloud together from a Golden Girls script and explore why it works. \nWeek 4 (9/24) — Tell. You’ll be guided through writing a short piece from your own life—to keep or to share. After all\, there’s no better story than your own. \n\nTopher has been an instructor at IONA for over five years\, teaching interactive courses such as improv\, filmmaking\, and screenplay analysis. His Monday Movie Night program has watched and discussed over 100 cinema classics. With 45 years of experience performing onstage and in front of the camera\, as well as a deep study of the arts\, his teaching is both dynamic and insightful. \nHe graduated with honors in Theatre and American Government from Wesleyan University\, and founded the Washington Improv Theater Training Program in Washington\, DC.
