SUMMARY:Walking Tour with Jane: Dupont Circle Historic District: Beyond Embassy Row
DESCRIPTION:Walking Tour – Dupont Circle Historic District: Beyond Embassy Row \nMeet:  May 26\, 2026\, 10am\, Toastique\, 1899 N St\, NW (a block from the 19th St. exit from Dupont Circle Metro) \nEnd\, approximately 12:15: The Whittemore House Museum\, Home of the Woman’s National Democratic Club\, 1526 New Hampshire Ave NW \nIn the late 19th Century\, the neighborhood around Dupont Circle was established by a “smart set” of wealthy\, powerful and high society Americans.  In addition\, many less prominent Washingtonians (then\, as now) made their homes in the townhouses that were built near the streetcar line that traversed beneath the Circle.  The transformation of Gilded Age mansions along Massachusetts Avenue is well known\, but beyond Embassy Row the history of DC city-folk continues\, reflected in the unique homes\, organizations and (yes\, more) embassies that make up the streetscape of East Dupont. Our walk will end with a tour of the historic mansion museum\, Whittemore House\, courtesy of the Woman’s National Democratic Club. \n

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL African American Art and Artists Discussion with Chichi
DESCRIPTION:Explore the work of well known and lesser known African American artists and their predecessors with Chichi Lovett.  As we take time to ‘read’ a piece of art from an artist’s perspective works of art created by African American artists are the visual stimuli used to examine assumptions and to initiate and welcome conversations regarding issues that are often difficult to discuss.  These issues can concern race\, class\, culture\, the art market and womanism/feminism (among other issues).  We take the time to look at the art presented and consider what it represents to you\, the viewer and why. Learn about the context of the art and artists in their own time and in ours.  Art pieces discussed in this class will be different from those discussed in the previous classes that Chichi has offered during past sessions. There are no prerequisites for this class. \nAttend with an open and curious mind and a gentle heart.  All are most welcome. \nGarnetta ‘Chichi’ Lovett is a native Brooklynite\, visual artist (BFA)\, retired professor (Auburn University) and community arts advocate and organizer. She currently lives in Washington DC. \nHow to Join This Virtual Class:\n\n1. Create an Account (if you don’t have one yet)\n2. SUMMARY:Floral Alchemy: Blooming Through Grief
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the larger ATDC Seeds of Wellness Health Fair. To RSVP to this event\, please click here and scroll to the bottom of the page.  \nThe Workshop: \nJoin us for an afternoon of floral alchemy where we turn our pain into beauty and destroy the taboo around grief to unlock its transformative power. This unique event blends the beauty and joy of creating floral arrangements with a safe\, authentic discussion about grief\, the impact it’s had on our lives\, and the loved ones we honor while building a supportive community. Grief is the one guarantee we all have – we don’t need to go through it alone.  \nI believe that flowers are a powerful force for change\, both in our own personal lives and collectively\, and I want to share this healing practice. There is so much grief in our communities\, but our culture highly stigmatizes any discussion around the topic.  \nMy goal is to create a space where people feel safe enough to share their grief\, talk about their loved ones\, and share what helps them find the strength to keep living. I want to empower people to turn their daunting emotions into something beautiful in real time while building community with those who can relate. I also hope to teach others who do not have this lived experience yet how to better support those in their lives who are grieving.  \nMy little brother recently passed away and creating floral arrangements has been an integral part of my healing. To move my grief up\, out\, and through and into something beautiful is truly a meditation on alchemy. They have helped me grow\, and even to bloom\, during the darkest time of my life. It is my hope with these workshops to cultivate the same deep healing for my community.  \nI believe that understanding grief is the gateway to understanding\, and fully appreciating life\, and I feel called to destroy the taboo around it to help others unlock the transformative power of their grief.  \nRun of Show:  \nA casual\, drop-in conversation about grief paired with a floral bouquet workshop. Come process your grief through creativity and leave with a beautiful bouquet and some new friends!  \nThis event is part of the larger ATDC Seeds of Wellness Health Fair. To RSVP to this event\, please click here and scroll to the bottom of the page.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Mindfulness & Meditation: Ancient Teachings in the Quest for Peace
DESCRIPTION:Your capacity to relax and be happy is real. But\, like a gardener\, you have to cultivate your mind to manage a stream of issues that naturally arise: physical accidents\, mental blocks\, past traumas\, cultural issues\, etc. When you don’t cultivate your mind\, it will not bear fruit. When you do\, your mind will provide you with increased equanimity in the midst of any storm. With the simple practice of mindfulness and meditation\, you will experience increasing periods of calm that will transform your physical\, emotional and spiritual health.  One breath is all that is required to start healing.  \nThis class is taught by both Kaili and Nadine. \nKaili Mang Jeyarajah completed her certificate in Mindfulness & Meditation Teaching with the Awareness Training Institute of the Greater Good Science Center of UC Berkeley. Her early training began in France in the Plum Village tradition of Zen master Thich Naht Hanh\, and it continues in the Theravadan and Zen traditions with Dassanaya Buddhist Community.  In addition to teaching meditation at IONA\, Kaili is a volunteer coordinator for Insight On the Inside\, where she facilitates weekly classes at the DC Jail\, and assists with fundraising and curriculum development.  At Dassanaya Buddhist Community in Alexandria\, VA\, Kaili serves as the Community Liaison and is a supporting teacher and assists in fundraising.  Prior to being certified as a meditation teacher\, she worked first as a corporate interior designer and later as a residential designer with a focus on sustainability.  She is married with two adult sons.  \nNadine Kaylor is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher and Mentor.
