SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Great Women in the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Class Description: \nExplore the powerful and often underrepresented contributions of women artists throughout history—through the lens of the rich local landscape. Great Women in the Arts is a dynamic virtual art history course that centers women’s artistic legacies from antiquity to the present day\, while incorporating gallery/museum visits you can take across Washington\, D.C.\, Maryland\, and Virginia to see the artists work we discuss\, in person. \nEach session highlights major movements and moments in art history focusing on Women Artists — from Renaissance self-portraiture to feminist interventions of the 1970s — paired with contemporary reflections by women artists working today. The course features deep dives into works by artists such as Alma Thomas (The Phillips Collection)\, Georgia O’Keefe (National Gallery of Art)\, Barbra Kruger (Hirshorn)\, Mickalene Thomas (Baltimore Museum of Art)\, and many more from The National Museum of Women in the Arts. As well as a feature of emerging contemporary artists local to the DMV\, such as Marie B.
