Villages

You know how the saying goes — “It Takes a Village.” That’s the philosophy behind the growing grassroots, membership-based Village Model, helping you age on your own terms and stay connected to your community. Over the past decade, nearly a dozen villages have been organized, covering all or nearly all of wards 2 and 3. Villages offer a variety of programs, from book clubs, discussion groups, and yoga classes to theater outings, lectures, and walks. Many of these programs are open to both members and non-members.

In addition to programs that keep you connected to your community, Villages tap neighborhood volunteers to help with life’s challenges.  Can’t change your kitchen light bulb? A volunteer will stop by (and even stay for a chat!). Need help getting your computer connected to the internet? A volunteer can help sort through technology problems. Facing a sudden health crisis? Your Village will help with referrals to vetted services and assist with transition services.

Many members start as volunteers, helping neighbors maintain their quality of life. They attend and help organize activities. At some point, the need arises to tap into the range of volunteer services—and your neighbors are there for you!
