September 11 @ 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

when & where

  • Iona Senior Services
  • September 11 @ 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Join us for an afternoon of creative expression where we explore grief, memory, and loss through the art of blackout poetry.

This unique event blends the creativity of blackout poetry with an open and welcoming conversation about grief, the impact it can have on our lives, and the loved ones we remember and honor. Whether you are personally experiencing grief or simply want to learn, listen, create, and connect with others, you are welcome.

Grief is something many of us experience throughout our lives – we don’t have to go through it alone.

What to Expect:

💌 Blackout poetry workshop
🤲🏼 A welcoming, nonjudgmental space for reflection and conversation
💭 A facilitated conversation about grief, loss, memory, and our experiences
🫂 An opportunity to connect and share with others in our community
🖋️ Time for creative expression and reflection through poetry

Event Flow:

4:30pm: Arrivals, Mingling, & Introductions

4:35–5:25pm: Grief Discussion
We’ll have an opportunity to share our experiences with grief and loss, reflect on how they have impacted our lives, and remember the people we love. For those who are not directly experiencing grief, this can be a time to listen, learn, and connect with others in the community. Sharing is always optional.

5:25–5:30pm: Blackout Poetry Tutorial

5:30–6:00pm: Creativity Time!
Use words from a found page to create your own blackout poem. You’ll have the opportunity to share your work and reflect on how memories, feelings, or ideas from our conversation may have influenced your creative process.

Floral arrangements and other artistic outlets have been integral to my healing journey, teaching me how to alchemize my pain into beauty through creativity. It is my hope to share that creative experience with all of you and invite you to explore your own relationship with grief through art and self-expression.

Join me in creating space for honest conversations about grief, finding connection, and honoring the people and memories that matter to us.
