November 19 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

when & where

  • Iona Senior Services
  • November 19 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Learn the gentle art of “Swedish death cleaning” with nurse care manager Dixcy Bosley of Iona Senior Services. Find out why we hold on to things, how clutter can affect your safety and well-being, and simple steps to declutter, donate and make your home safer, both for you and the people you love.

She’ll cover:

  • How online ordering, marketing and the “more stuff” culture fill our homes
  • How healthy collecting differs from hoarding
  • The hidden dangers of clutter, such as falls, fire hazards, scams, lost documents, isolation and family strain
  • A home safety checklist for food, medications, mold, rugs and handrails
  • Simple steps to start: begin with less personal items, give things away, keep mementos that matter, and build a decluttering habit
  • Where to donate, including local organizations that pick up items for free
  • Respectful ways to help a parent or senior friend let go, like photographing a cherished item before parting with it
